Susan Emma Owens Breakefield Fulton
Susan co-founded FBB in 1989 as a fee-only investment management firm. Under Susan’s leadership, FBB was recognized for excellence as one of the top 25 “Up and Coming” investment management firms nationwide by Forbes Magazine in October 2008 and more recently named by the Financial Times to the FT Top 300 for six of the past seven years.
A regular commentator on CNBC and Fox Business Network, Susan has frequently addressed Washington area organizations about investing, philanthropy, and business leadership. Susan has been quoted in Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post on numerous occasions.
In 1999, Susan endowed a memorial to her husband, the Richard Alsina Fulton Center for Sustainable Living, a 50-acre farm for hands-on education regarding environmental issues and solutions.
Active and passionate about her interests, Susan has served on the boards of Wilson College, her alma mater, and Heifer International.
An Army brat, Susan calls DC home having lived there as a toddler and returned to graduate from Western High School (now Duke Ellington) in 1957. She has been a member of the Washington business community since 1964.
As President of FBB Capital Partners, Michael is responsible for strategic planning and talent management for the firm, as well as managing client relationships.
With nearly 20 years of investment and planning experience, Michael enjoys addressing each client’s unique circumstances by bringing together the full resources and expertise that FBB and our partners have to offer.
A member of FBB’s investment committee, Michael is a CFA charter holder and a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner. He is a member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society of Washington, DC, and is a NAPFA associate with the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA). His insight regarding investment management and financial planning has led to appearances on Fox Business Network, CNBC, PBS’ Nightly Business Report, and NPR. In addition, he has been quoted in numerous publications including The Wall Street Journal, Kiplinger’s, and The Washington Post.
Prior to pursuing his graduate degree, Michael was a Vice President and Financial Consultant for Charles Schwab & Company Inc. where he advised clients on formulating and executing their investment strategies and financial plans.
Michael received his MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and marketing from Ohio University.
Michael and his wife Angela have three children and reside in Potomac, Maryland.

Chief Compliance Officer
As Executive Vice President of FBB Capital Partners, Stein is responsible for strategic planning for the firm, as well as managing client relationships and client investment portfolios. Stein works closely with FBB’s president to ensure the strategic vision for the firm is met.
Stein serves as a member of FBB’s investment committee. He was responsible for establishing FBB’s eastern shore office in Easton, Maryland, over fifteen years ago and continues to oversee the operations of that office and its growing practice. Stein’s areas of expertise lie in portfolio design and implementation, retirement, tax, and estate planning.
With over 20 years of investment and financial planning experience, Stein is passionate about coordinating planning efforts with client’s accountants, estate planners, and other key professionals in order to provide holistic and sophisticated financial strategies. Stein’s insights and analysis have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, The Washington Post, Forbes, Market Watch, The Street.com, and CBS News.
Prior to joining FBB, Stein was an Investment Consultant for Charles Schwab and Co. assisting clients in formulating and executing their investment strategies.
Stein is a graduate of Salisbury University’s Perdue School of Business where he earned a Bachelor of Science in finance. Stein is a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner and has earned a Certificate in Financial Planning from Georgetown University. Stein is also a NAPFA associate with the National Association of Professional Financial Advisors (NAPFA).
Stein currently serves on the board of Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS). TIS is dedicated to ending homelessness on Maryland’s Mid-Shore by providing Shelter, Stability, Support, and a path to Success for families and individuals in need.
Stein spends his free time with his family enjoying outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, and snow skiing. He and his wife Beth have two children.
Director of Research
As Director of Research and chair of the Investment Committee, Mike is responsible for monitoring and analyzing macro and microeconomic data, secular industry trends, and identifying appropriate investments for client portfolios. Mike is passionate about global capital markets, having lived and worked in London, New York, and Tokyo.
Prior to FBB Capital Partners, Mike spent nearly nine years as a buy-side research analyst with Legg Mason Investment Counsel primarily focusing on recommending stocks in the healthcare industry and managing a model healthcare portfolio. Prior to Legg Mason, Mike was a Vice President and equity research analyst with Bear Stearns, where he followed the medical device industry.
Over the years, Mike’s financial insights and analysis have been featured in appearances on CNBC, Fox Business Network, NPR, and Bloomberg Radio, as well as in the Wall Street Journal, CNN.com, Forbes, Kiplinger, Barron’s, and The Washington Post.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Emory University and a Master of Arts in International Economics and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University. Mike is a CFA charter holder and a member of the CFA Society of Washington, D.C.
Mike and his wife Maria have five children and reside in Potomac, Maryland
Director of Operations
Bridget joined FBB Capital Partners when the firm was in its infancy. Bridget’s role as Director of Operations does not begin to describe the breadth of her knowledge and duties at FBB Capital Partners. From spearheading internal workflow management to acting as the firm’s liaison with custodians and technology platforms, Bridget covers the operational bases for FBB Capital Partners and our clients.
Prior to joining FBB, Bridget worked for Chevy Chase Bank.
A native of Maryland, Bridget and her husband live in Gaithersburg and try to keep up with their three adult children.
Senior Portfolio Manager
Sandy enjoys working with clients to help them achieve their retirement goals especially after saving for many working years. She also has a passion for helping people implement tax-smart charitable giving strategies.
Prior to FBB Capital Partners, Sandy worked for over 20 years at Marriott International where she supervised the external investment managers for the company’s 401(k) plan. She first began her multi-faceted career in the investment business in 1971 when she worked at a brokerage firm.
Sandy holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, is a licensed CPA, and a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner. She is also a NAPFA associate with the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).
A native Washingtonian, Sandy is involved in her parish’s endowment for the ongoing support of the parish grade school that she attended years ago. She is an avid Nationals baseball fan, golfer, and enjoys playing the piano.

Maggi brings over 24 years of financial industry experience to her practice. Maggi values her client relationships and delights in her role as an educator to her clients, helping them create tangible goals for their financial life.
Prior to joining FBB Capital Partners, Maggi spent 12 years at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., specializing in assisting families and high net worth individuals and foundations.
Maggi holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University and is a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner and a NAPFA associate with the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).
Maggi and her husband Pete, a retired Marine Corps Colonel, live in her native Virginia. As the parent of two children, Maggi is very active in their sports activities.
Senior Portfolio Manager & Shareholder
With over two decades of experience in Investment Management, David serves as a Portfolio Manager to FBB Capital Partners’ clients. David actively works with clients to identify investment strategies, evaluate current financial goals, and manage their investment portfolios. As a member of the investment committee, David provides research and guidance to the team related to current and future investment opportunities. David developed and manages the firm’s tactical Growth Momentum investment strategy, a quantitatively driven approach for capital appreciation.
Prior to joining FBB Capital Partners, David was a portfolio manager with Rydex Investments where his responsibilities included research and the management of five U.S. sector funds, two international funds, and overseeing the investment operations of the Rydex Series Trust Equal Weight ETF.
David received an MBA in Finance and Investments from The George Washington University and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the business school honor society. David is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of Washington as well as the Washington Association of Money Managers.
David and his wife Pam are theater enthusiasts and are active in the arts community.
Jaime is a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner and serves as a Portfolio Manager to FBB Capital Partners’ clients. He is also a NAPFA-registered financial advisor (National Association of Personal Financial Advisors). Jaime enjoys working with clients through their unique planning issues and investment needs.
Jaime’s financial planning experience has led to becoming a board member of Life Assets and the Washington Health Initiative. His thoughts on financial planning best practices have been featured in USA Today, Forbes, and CNN Money.
Jaime’s previous experience includes time working on Wall Street as an equity trader and in multiple other market capacities including market making, portfolio management, and private client lending.
Jaime graduated from Boston College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. He was an academic scholarship recipient and a walk-on pitcher for The Eagles baseball team.
A former pro-baseball player, Jaime is originally from Panama and speaks Spanish. He presently resides in Rockville, Maryland, with his wife Cynthia and his growing family.
Jane brings more than a decade of experience working in financial services to her practice. Her financial planning advice has been featured in various radio and news outlets including Marketplace, CNBC, The Street, Market Watch, USA Today, and U.S. News & World Report. Jane is a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner and is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.
Jane believes that client education and compassion are vital to the financial planning process. Whether she’s working with a client to plan for retirement or navigate a major milestone such as marriage, divorce, or loss of a loved one, she enjoys educating and empowering her clients. Jane also enjoys working with families with unique or complex estate planning needs.
Prior to joining FBB Capital Partners, Jane held various roles in commercial real estate finance, banking, and brokerage industries. Jane is a graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland and holds a master’s degree from New York University where she studied community development and real estate finance. As an undergraduate, Jane was an All-American sailor, helping her team to several national titles. Jane and her husband GK live in Oxford, Maryland with their two children.
John is responsible for guiding his clients through the process of determining their investment goals and portfolio construction. John is also an active member of FBB’s investment committee, providing insights on macro trends and asset allocation as well as assisting with security selection broadly and with a particular focus on clean-tech, renewable energy, and the electric utility sector.
John is a CFA charter holder and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.
Prior to graduate school, John worked as a Senior Consulting Associate at Cambridge Associates assisting clients with asset allocation, investment policy statements, manager monitoring and selection, and portfolio management. John was also an Equity Portfolio Manager for a Large Cap Value strategy.
John received his undergraduate education from Stanford University and his MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business. While at Darden, John served as the Senior Portfolio Manager for the Monticello Fund of Darden Capital Management, a student-run investment club that actively manages a portion of the University’s endowment.
John and his wife Laura live in Washington, DC. In his spare time, John enjoys hiking, running, and has an active interest in conservation, particularly in his native New Hampshire.
Associate Portfolio Manager
Over the past 15 years, Jackie has enjoyed a diverse global career in financial services and business development. Jackie’s primary focus is helping her clients grow their assets so they can live their best lives while they plan to achieve crucial life goals, such as education and retirement funding, or planning life’s adventures.
Jackie began her career in private wealth management, serving with Sanford Bernstein and Deutsche Bank in the Los Angeles area. This was followed by a successful stint in Melbourne, Australia working in executive recruitment for Robert Half International. Most recently, Jackie served with the Institute of International Finance, managing key relationships with prominent senior banking executives across Europe and Asia.
Jackie holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of California Davis, and a Master’s of Arts in International Affairs from American University. Jackie and her husband Eric have three boys and reside in Silver Spring, Maryland. Outside of work, Jackie is an outdoor enthusiast who is passionate about travel and cheering for her boys at swim meets.
As a research analyst, Zach provides valuable insight to the Investment Committee about various sectors and individual companies that he covers. Zach works side-by-side with FBB’s Director of Research, reviewing existing stock and bond holdings and generating new ideas for potential future investments.
Prior to FBB Capital Partners, Zach was at B. Riley FBR where he was a research associate covering regional and community banks. Prior to that, Zach was an auditor within the financial services group at PwC.
Zach graduated from James Madison University and was actively involved in the student-managed investment fund. He is a licensed CPA and has passed all levels of the CFA exam.
In his free time, Zach enjoys the outdoors and can be found running or biking along the Rock Creek Parkway on the weekends.
As a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner, Alex provides financial planning analysis and support to FBB’s clients through his expertise and passion for financial modeling. This passion helps to ensure that FBB’s clients are able to meet their needs and objectives through rigorous planning.
Alex graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Maryland. Upon graduation, Alex moved to New York where he worked as an equity trader.
Alex is a Maryland native and grew up in the Bethesda area. In his spare time, Alex enjoys working out and following Maryland football and basketball.
Easton Office Manager
Sheleen brings over 10 years of operations and customer service experience to her role as FBB’s Easton Office Manager. Sheleen is responsible for the operations in FBB’s Easton office and provides support to Portfolio Managers to ensure all client’s needs are addressed with efficiency. Sheleen strives to achieve the highest level of client satisfaction throughout all phases of client interactions.
Prior to joining FBB, Sheleen spent nine years working in 0perations within the retail industry.
Sheleen lives in Easton where she pursues her passions including weightlifting, cooking, reading on many topics, golf, and socializing with friends and family.
Client Service Manager
Toni brings over 15 years of operations and customer service experience to her role as FBB’s Client Service Manager. Toni is responsible for on boarding new clients and the administrative management of existing client accounts in support of the entire FBB Capital Partners team. Toni strives to achieve the highest level of client satisfaction throughout all phases of client-to-firm and client-to-broker dealer interactions.
Previously, Toni worked in the operations departments of several financial services firms including Ceros Financial Services and Rydex Funds.
Toni is a graduate of the University of Maryland and lives in Derwood, Maryland, with her husband and three sons.
Bethesda Office Manager
Katy previously spent over eight years in the hotel/restaurant management industry with a degree in culinary arts. She leans towards the operations side of finance due to her previous management experience.
Katy works with FBB’s clients, operations team, and portfolio managers to ensure all client needs are met with efficiency.
After receiving her culinary arts degree, Katy received her Bachelor of Science in marketing from the University of Maryland University College.
Katy lives in Severn, Maryland, and enjoys playing music, traveling, hiking, running, and spending time with her four siblings and their families.
Samantha Williams comes to FBB with a background in Arts Administration. She has spent the last five years working at regional theatre companies along the east coast, most recently at Olney Theatre Center as their Company Manager. Samantha holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts with additional focus in Management and Psychology from Stetson University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a member of multiple honor and social societies.
At FBB, Samantha works with the operations team, and portfolio managers to ensure all client needs are met with efficiency and complete satisfaction.
Originally from central Missouri, Samantha now resides in Silver Spring and enjoys attending her adopted DC sports teams’ home games, exploring new eateries, as well as cross-stitching and embroidery.
The CFA® Charter is a globally recognized, graduate-level investment credential. Earning it demonstrates a commitment to professional ethics and expertise with the broad range of skills needed in the investment profession. Each CFA® must have a minimum of four years of experience in the industry prior to a rigorous course of study followed by a six-hour exam.
The CFP® certification is a voluntary certification recognized for its high standard of professional education in the areas of insurance planning and risk management, employee benefits planning, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning, estate planning, stringent code of conduct and standards of practice, and ethical requirements that govern professional engagements with clients. Certificants have passed a ten-hour exam and complete 30 hours of continuing education every two years.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is the statutory title of qualified accountants in the United States who have passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination and have met additional state education and experience requirements for certification as a CPA
The CAIA® is the globally-recognized credential for professionals managing, analyzing, distributing, or regulating alternative investments and requires over 200 hours of study and two exams.
